About Australian Age of Dinosaurs

The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum is an exciting high-profile natural history museum in Winton, QLD - the dinosaur capital of Australia. We’re at the forefront of Australia’s most significant dinosaur discoveries, hosting the most extensive collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world. 

The Museum is operated by a team of passionate individuals who are dedicated to getting visitors excited about natural history. A hands-on fossil preparation laboratory operates year-round and is recognised as one of the most productive facilities of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The Museum hosts over 50,000 visitors annually and offers guided tours through its facilities daily. 

We now have an exciting opportunity for a new Curator of Palaeontology to join the team and manage our Palaeontology department.

In addition to an attractive salary ranging from $80,000 - $95,000 (commensurate with experience and skills) plus superannuation, you will receive relocation assistance to help you move to Winton, QLD - the dinosaur capital of Australia.

Discover Your Next Opportunity

You will be working closely with our Executive Chairman and our Museum Management team to oversee the Museum’s laboratories, exhibition development, research affiliations and dinosaur digs while also contributing to our comprehensive education initiatives.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Museum’s fossil preparation laboratories
  • Managing the Museum archives
  • Managing existing exhibitions and assisting with the development of new exhibitions
  • Assisting with the Museum’s education and science outreach programs

What You Will Bring to the Team

To be considered for this position, you must hold a tertiary qualification in Palaeontology and have a good knowledge of collection management and Australian Geology. Experience in museums or tourist attractions will be highly regarded as will prior experience working in a Not for Profit environment.

Critical to your success in this role will be the ability to collaborate with a team of professionals and manage a team of passionate staff and volunteers. You will be emotionally intelligent and highly organised, with the ability to delegate and multitask effectively while managing competing priorities.

Crucially, you will be a competent and confident leader with highly developed communication skills, committed to achieving results while working effectively with others and modelling the Museum’s core values.

Prior experience in exhibition management and design will be highly regarded.
