The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is an exciting, award-winning museum at the centre of Australia’s most significant dinosaur discoveries. Located on a spectacular mesa known as The Jump-Up in Central West Queensland and the site of Australia’s first designated International Dark-Sky Sanctuary, the Museum houses the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world. 

Since its inception in 2002, the Museum has grown to include a Fossil Preparation Laboratory, Reception Centre, Dinosaur Canyon, the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition and Gondwana Stars Observatory. The Museum is also contracted by Winton Shire Council to manage Dinosaur Stampede National Monument at Lark Quarry Conservation Park, a Queensland’s Park and Wildlife Service site and the largest trace fossil site in Australia.

The Head of Operations position has been created to oversee all existing day-to-day operations and to assist the Executive Chairman and Head of Development, as a member of the Museum’s Executive Team, to plan and fund the Museum’s project and business development. As such, we are looking for a passionate and experienced Head of Operations to join our team and truly make a difference.

This is a full-time role working out of Winton, Queensland.

A career 100 million years in the making

Working closely with the Executive Chairman and the Management team, you will oversee the Museum's day-to-day operations. This is a unique opportunity to make this role your own and work collaboratively with other managers to deliver customer-focused experiences that are second to none. 

Core duties:

  • Lead and oversee the Museum staff team and operations.
  • Manage the Museum’s risk management.
  • Manage the Museum’s finances, budgeting and onsite business planning.
  • Lead the Museum’s commitment to customer focus.
  • Manage the Museum’s human resources (HR) portfolio.
  • Support Museum development and projects.
  • Support Museum operations.

You'll be great in this role because:

You are an enthusiastic and supportive individual with proven experience as a HEAD OF OPERATIONS who has qualifications in business management and experience working in a not-for-profit organisation with a wide range of responsibilities.

To be successful in this role, you will have a background in business administration and experience managing a human resources portfolio.

You will be emotionally intelligent, caring and professional, highly organised, with strong multi-tasking skills and can effectively manage competing priorities.

It is important that the Head of Operations is a respectful and friendly individual who can lead and mentor a diverse and enthusiastic team, ranging from first-time employees to experienced managers.

You must be a confident leader, committed to driving results from the front and leading by example. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to work collaboratively with many people, including fellow managers, support staff, and volunteers. You'll have the capacity to make tough decisions while maintaining the organisation’s values.
